Who are We?

The Nawakwa Dancers is the Native America Dance and Drum Team for the Nawakwa Order of the Arrow Lodge #3.  We are located in Central Virginia and is chartered to the Heart of Virginia Council #602 of the Boy Scouts of America

The Nawakwa American Dance and Drum team is made up of scouts that are in the Nawakwa Order of the Arrow, which is a Boy Scout Honor Society made up of scouts and adults recognized by their peers in scouting.

Each member of the dance and Drum team spends many hours and funds in creating the regalia for the era and nation they wish to represent.  Their goal is to preserve Native American dance and heritage through the creation of dance regalia, dancing, and teaching others about the Native American culture.

We are in the process of working to create a Drum Team for some of the older scouts. These programs help enrich the Native American culture and spirit in the Nawakwa Lodge, the Order of the Arrow, and the Boy Scouts of America.

The Team performs at all lodge ceremonies and we complete in regional and national Order of the Arrow competitions.  We represent the Lodge with Service to Troops, Cub Packs, Performances, and demonstrations at District Events.  We maintain a tradition of excellence in dance, regalia, and the Sprit of the Brotherhood.

We are active throughout each Service Weekend from Friday night through Sunday morning.  TIPIS are set-up on Friday as the team gathers for an evening of crafting, dance, practice, and attending the Pre-Ordeal Ceremony.  Saturday we practice dance, craft, teach, and demonstrate to new members or anyone else interested in the team.  We perform at all ceremonies on Saturday and support the Ceremony team in any way we can.

If you would like additional information, please contact us and if you are a member of the Nawakwa Lodge and would like to be part of the Native American Dance team, let us know.  No experience is needed, expected, nor required.

Thank you, The Nawakwa Native American Dance and Drum Team
